Here at RMT we just wanted to give you an update on our production of Fiddler on the Roof, as we know many of you will be missing family, friends and of course live theatre.
Our hope was to put the show on later in the year, but after lengthy discussions we have taken the difficult decision to effectively write-off 2020 and perform Fiddler in April 2021. We are sure you will understand that this wasn't an easy decision to come to, but it is one that we think is most beneficial to you, our amazing audiences, and to RMT in the long term.
Why? Well here are a few brief reasons behind our decision...
🎻 Will theatres even be open this year? We don't want to rush to do it this year and then have to postpone for a second time, causing more upset to you and our cast and crew. 🎻 If theatre's are allowed to open, it is likely the decision will come with some form of social distancing. If this is the case, like all theatres RMT obviously wouldn't be able to afford to sell houses at a reduced capacity to allow for gaps between audience members. 🎻 If theatre's are allowed to reopen as normal later in the year, we aren't confident that all of our audience members or cast will feel comfortable being in that sort of environment so early on, and it would therefore not be beneficial to you or to RMT. 🎻 We want you to have a fantastic time, relax and feel comfortable enjoying the amazing production we have waiting in the wings for you!
We hope you understand why we have made this decision and once we are able to confirm the exact new April 2021 dates with the theatre we will let you know straight away! But for now, just write RMT'S FIDDLER across April 2021 in your diaries - we all need something to look forward to! When we finally bring you our production of Fiddler on the Roof in April 2021 we are sure we can all agree that the atmosphere and sense of community in the theatre will be electric, and we can't wait to be performing this wonderful production to you then! With very best wishes, The RMT Committee, Cast and Crew
